El Paraiso Holiday Log Cabins

Sax, 6 kilometres from Santa Eulalia has a fortress built over a limestone crest dominating the village. The eastern tower of the Islamic fortress still stands and dates back to the 12th century although the fortresses origins date back to the 10th century.

The town of Sax is going through a period of renovation and has much to offer. Sax has many great restaurants, bars and shops. On Monday mornings there is a market which sells locally produced goods and fresh fruit & vegetables, quaintly set in the streets off the main GranVia (High Street).

At week ends and during fiestas sections of the Gran Via are closed off by the police and the restaurants and bars spill off the pavements out into the street. So you can eat and drink knowing that with no traffic there is no safer place for children to play.

Once you’ve eaten how about walking it all off by going to the castle. With NO entrance charge, you will need a key to get in. By going to the local police station with you passport, they will take a copy of it and give you the key the castle. Then it’s up to you as to how long you want to stay. When you have finished you simply take the key back.  With breath taking views it is well worth a visit. It is said that out side the castle is a rock in the shape of a dragon, on which when under attack would carry the knights on his back into the castle for their safe keeping then guard them from invaders. The roads surrounding the castle are very hilly and narrow which enabled the townsfolk to escape to the castle before attacking armies had chance to get to them. There is also a network of tunnels below the castle which are no longer is use and many have been filled in. On the north face of the castle a snow hole (yes it says snow) was created so that during winter water could be stored to keep the army going during the summer.
